Silence is Loving

My mother and cousin Karl took a beautiful picture on the way to Aunt Florence homegoing. We had so many joyful moments. That is the beauty of loving each other through tough times, we help each other by sharing smiles, laughter, and hugs. Sometimes, words are not necessary. Just looking in the eyes of another person, and smiling or nodding your head, is equal to saying, “It will be alright!” In times like these, we need affirmation that someone knows we hurt, and the hurt is too much for us right now. When a nephew puts his arms around your shoulder and helps you walk, when you are so overwhelmed with grief your legs are like buckets of cement; this is that type of affirmation. No words are required.  Human contact is one thing we missed greatly, when the pandemic was at it worst. Our normal way of communicating through grief was disrupted. Our normal way to love went through a drastic transformation from hugs to Zoom calls. They are not the same. Let’s cherish the moments of life and death with human contact and loving affirmation. Words are not always requred to say “I love you. Things will be alright!”
